Welcome to Governance 1
Key roles and responsibilities
Service Description
Being a governor is a job, albeit a voluntary one. As in any job, a proper induction is really important in making sure you get off to a good start and avoid any major faux pas. Your governing board should provide you with all the school specific information that you need but most governors find it useful to attend our induction programme that looks at the role in the round and deepen their understanding of key aspects. It will also give you the opportunity to meet others in the same boat and ask any questions in a safe environment Governors should aim to attend the modules in numerical order but can spread that attendance over more than one series of sessions. Module 1 mainly discusses: The current educational landscape The role - what it is, and importantly, what it isn't The powers and duties of key players How governing boards are organised The importance of meetings
